Our story
Back in 2015 we’d created a business that had served us well, but it got to the point where there was something missing.
Looking back we’d realised our original vision of creating a boutique digital studio by the sea. After doing a fair bit of soul searching we came up with the idea of The Happy Startup School and something fundamentally shifted.
Suddenly all our creative energy and excitement got channelled into that and our passion for the agency slowly died. We had something new to live for.
We closed down the agency while it was thriving to realise our dream.
Since that day more than 120,000 people now follow our blog, 5,000 people have taken our courses and we’ve hosted dozens of life-changing programs all around the world – from the wild beaches of Goa to the mountains of Oregon.
We’ve created a diverse set of revenue streams that has allowed us to break away from our old agency model where we just sold our time.
Crucially this would never have happened if it wasn’t for the support of those around us – an incredible group of likeminded entrepreneurs that gave us the confidence to make our dream happen and do the hard thing.
It was like a crowd of hearts propelling us forward.
Ever since we’ve amassed an even more rich and diverse group of mentors, teachers and peers that have inspired us, and continue to support each other to get through the tough times, and celebrate the good ones.

Carlos Saba
Coach and community builder
With a background in science, Carlos started his first company, a digital product studio with Laurence in 2004 and grew that into a respected agency with a team of designers and developers. He now hosts their weekly podcast, leads the community and inspires others to make money, do good and be happy.
Laurence McCahill
Coach and designer
Laurence is the driving force behind The Happy Startup School, which was launched as a side project in 2013. Along with Carlos they decided to close the agency two years later to pursue this new path driven by contribution and community. He is the creative mind behind their legendary retreats and camps.
Lana Jelenjev
Coach and learning designer
Lana has a knack for creating, initiating and making impactful ideas happen. Her background is in the field of education- spanning 20+ years of teaching, training teachers, setting up schools and learning facilities, curriculum design and for the past few years, online learning experience design and community design.
